Matching Entrepreneurs & Investors at Foundum Unplugged!

June 19th, 2012

What a week!  On Wednesday, June 13th the first ever Foundum Unplugged event kicked off at the Telefonica Tower with 100 entrepreneurs, investors, and VC firms meeting for 1-on-1 pitches, networking, and workshops.

The day began with two thought-provoking workshops. First, Cartagena Capital and Active Venture Partners provided tips and strategies for the “Optimal Fundraising Process”. Second, ENISA and CDTI joined forces to educate entrepreneurs on “Alternative Funding” options and opportunities.

Introductions came next as guests were welcomed into the creative space of the Wayra offices on the 11th floor. Each investor was introduced individually and given the opportunity to explain briefly the type of investments they specialize in so the entrepreneurs knew where to focus their efforts.

A break for lunch and casual networking was quickly transformed into monitored 10-minute, 1-on-1 meetings between entrepreneurs and investors.  Wayra’s creative space became host to 4 separate sections dividing the types of funding providers into Seed, Early, Expansion, and Alternative Funding: which included M&A groups, NGO’s and private investors.

For 2 and half hours, entrepreneurs made the rounds to different investors making connections, introducing their start-ups, and pitching their products.  TV3 and Television Espanola were on hand to cover the event and provide their viewers with news of some positive economic activity in a time when most media channels are focusing on the crisis.  View some pictures here.

Following the Matchmaking Event, participants were transported to Active Venture Partners terrace on Passeig de Gracia by MyTaxi, a mobile application start-up delivering instant taxis right from your smartphone. Entrepreneurs and investors met once again for informal networking and drinks overlooking the sun setting on Barcelona to the backdrop of live jazz music.

To round out the week, Foundum’s partner and good friends at SIME Barcelona hosted another successful day of digital innovation and collaboration. More than 19 thought-leaders, creative CEO’s, and subject matter experts took the stage to educate and inspire the audience and unveil the unlimited potential for innovation in our immediate future.

We’d like to thank all of you that participated, organized, planned, and delivered Foundum Unplugged and we look forward to working with all of you to take the Barcelona Entrepreneurial Ecosystem to unprecedented new heights.

THANK YOU!
